Youfit Client Testimonial

Do you know what the hardest part about starting a fitness journey is? It’s that first step. Just ask Youfit member Rita Arwood. Rita was like many people and didn’t know what to expect when joining a gym. Even after joining she had feelings of intimidation that held her back. Looking back, that first step was one of the best choices she made for herself. As a result of her journey at Youfit, Rita has lost 80 pounds and is no longer diabetic!

Let’s take a step back and look at Rita’s life before Youfit. Rita explains that she “was never one to wake up early” and she had never stepped foot inside of a gym before enrolling back in 2014. In fact, it wasn’t until 2017 that Rita utilized her membership after an extra push from her doctor. Rita was diagnosed with diabetes and was told she would need to begin taking medication to manage her glucose levels, unless she made a change. That was the push she needed to get started.

Rita says from the start she was surprised by the dedication of the other members in the gym and the professionalism of the staff. As she continued to press on in her fitness journey in 2018, Rita was diagnosed with cancer. Staying active and continuing  what she started proved to be one of her best opportunities for a successful outcome. Rita underwent a double mastectomy, but she didn’t let that keep her down. A short seven days after surgery she got back to working out by starting light on the express circuit and building her way up.

Now, Rita starts every day with a workout. Since beginning her journey she has been able to lose weight and gain confidence. She no longer needs the medications she was taking previously and is able to keep up with the energy of the younger children in her family. Rita is intrinsically motivated to continue her journey and to focus on herself and her health. Living well and looking great is the best motivation for her.

When asked what advice she would give to someone just starting on their fitness journey, Rita suggests “Don’t think of the end goal.” By breaking down fitness goals into smaller steps you can start moving in the right direction. That way, small setbacks will not discourage you. She says “keep marching on” and “you can absolutely do it.”
