The surgery training platform Osso VR is launching a new update that dramatically improves its graphical fidelity to a very high level. The new update will increase both the realism and immersion for users leveraging the platform to train before they carry out surgeries in real-life.
The new Osso VR visuals have been described as “movie-quality” and were created by a leading art director a well as the software/UI team which included, among others, a former games industry talent.
Many of the VR surgical instruction platforms are still largely based on some rudimentary modestly shaded anatomical models that have not been very convincing. Some are also based on flat videos while others feature basic user interfaces which don’t do a good job at replicating the medical scenarios with the real-world nuances and detail.
Many of the early virtual reality medical training systems have already produced measurable health benefits. Osso VR has stated that its previous surgical products yielded a peer-reviewed 230% improvements in the surgical performance. The company’s new visual upgrade will deliver very high fidelity and believable virtual operating rooms where doctors will be able to even interact with patients whose conditions (such as skin and wounds) reflect the surgical realities.
The new graphics are expected to be more life-like. Sabella has previously worked on a number of Marvel Movies as well as the Star Wars VR experience Vader Immortal. For the new Osso VR update, Sabella -who also has expertise in human and comparative anatomy-worked on a virtual reality project that carries an actual life and death implications. Thanks to his contribution in the Osso VR experience, the new surgery training experience now offers participants much more including more convincing shading, textures as well as modeling that enables the doctors to see everything such as the injuries as well as tools. The rendering is highly immersive and realistic and is as close as possible to what they actually look like in real-life.
For the first time, medical VR is providing surgeons with content that is clinically accurate and emotionally compelling thanks to the contributions of some of the top names in the big-budget films as well as game studios.
