The Nreal Light Mixed Reality glasses owners can now enjoy more graphics and computing power thanks to the introduction of a PC connection.

The Chinese company Nreal launched its new Nreal Light augmented reality glasses early this year. They are more affordable and unlike others which target enterprise users, they are intended for end users.

During the announcement, Nreal showcased the light AR glasses in conjunction with a smartphone or portable computing unit that relies on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The Mixed Reality glasses are operated via a rotary along with a 3 D0F controller which has an integrated touchpad.

Nreal AR Glasses Will Now Connect to PC

Nreal has now announced that its Light augmented reality glasses will connect to a desktop PC or notebook with Windows 10 via a USB-C connection. The PC connection gives the glasses much more improved computing power and better graphics performance compared to the mobile-based setups. This makes it feasible to run more intensive and visually complex augmented reality apps that require greater computing power.

Additionally, Nreal buyers will access a greater selection of content as the manufacturer’s App Store will no longer be an obstacle. Nreal is hoping to roll out its Light headset as a working device relying on a PC connection, a new kind of monitor that will have an impressive design and presentation.

The first test results indicate that the Nreal Light headset will offer users an improved picture quality along with a wider field of view than the Magic Leap One AR glasses. Nreal and Magic Leap have a contentious relationship. The Chinese AR company was founded by the former Magic Leap software developer Chi Xu. Recently, Magic Leap sued Xu and Nreal for stealing its intellectual property that it alleges was quickly used in developing the Nreal prototype.

In spite of the lawsuits, the Nreal Light glasses are expected to hit the market from early next year. Developers will be receiving their first Nreal devices this month. The developer version of the product will cost $1,200 and can be ordered from the company’s official website.
