August is National Wellness Month and in honor of that, we’ve comprised a list of the top 5 ways to start supporting your overall wellness today!
Get outside and exercise. Yes, Youfit Health Clubs offers state of the art facilities that are quite irresistible (thank you, thank you *takes a bow*) and we encourage you to add a Youfit visit to your daily routine. But, you might also consider squeezing in some outdoor activities while the weather is nice. Getting outside and breathing in the fresh air can give you a mental recharge and improve self-esteem. Studies show that just five minutes of outdoor exercise can offer great benefits for your overall well-being. Feeling extra ambitious? Trade out your morning car commute with walking or biking if you can!
Slow down. Your to-do list is long and seems like there isn’t enough time in the day, doesn’t it? You’re running around the house getting everything (and everyone) ready in the morning, spending most of your day in a feverish rush, and barely unwinding at night before it’s time to start it all over again. We’re certainly guilty of getting caught up in the day-to-day chaos. But spending your day in this manner keeps you from enjoying the beauty around you. We encourage you to slow down, take a simple stroll around your neighborhood, relax, put up your feet for a few minutes, and get lost in an activity you love. You will feel fantastic and will thank yourself later. That to-do list will still be there waiting for you, but now you can greet it with a calmer and clearer mind.
Drink more water. Drinking water can be attributed to many health benefits. Water is needed by the body to maintain proper function, improve skin health and aid in weight loss. The Institute of Medicine recommends drinking at least 11 cups of water daily. If you’re struggling to drink enough water in the day, consider investing in a reusable water bottle and infuse your water with fruits or herbs to make it more satisfying – have fun with it!
Stretch. Stretching sounds easy enough but honestly, who has time? Incorporating stretching into your daily routine might seem overwhelming, but just five minutes at the start of your day or before a workout can have a huge impact. Stretching is proven to improve flexibility and joint range of motion, improve circulation, decrease your chance of injury, and it can help calm the mind and relieve stress.
Put YOU first. No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks. You read that correctly. STOP putting everything and everyone else before you. Purposefully set aside time in your day for self-care, whether it’s a foot massage, or simply changing out that chipped nail polish. Is a lunch date calling you? Or how about some time to catch up with that friend from high school? Whatever sparks joy for you- do it! And don’t feel guilty for even a moment. Taking care of yourself- physically and mentally improves mental health and productivity. You can’t fill from an empty cup, can you?
