Remember Mimir? He’s the wise talking head who told you stories in 2018’s God of War. Well, he’s now been brought to life as a brilliant animatronic.
It’s the work of Bar-El Studio, who specialises in animatronics, special effects, prosthetics and model making. The studio spent the past several months piecing together the animatronic head and revealed the finished product on January 6, 2020.
Mimir is realised in full – well, his head – with glowing golden eyes, horns, beard, and he even moves his mouth as if talking to you.
It caught the attention of God of War developer Santa Monica Studio who shared the reveal video on Twitter, describing it as “one of the single greatest tribute creations for #GodofWar we’ve ever seen.”
This is one of the single greatest tribute creations for #GodofWar we’ve ever seen – Animatronic Mimir – The Smartest Man Alive! We’ll take one, this one, please.

You can see the whole process that went into making the Mimir animatronic over on Bar-El Studio’s Instagram. It’s made of silicon sculptures to give the skin that realistic texture while electronic mechanisms perform the facial expressions.
God of War made it into IGN’s list of the greatest games of the last decade. In our God of War review, we said it’s “a thrilling journey in which every aspect of it complements the others to form what is nothing short of a masterpiece.”

We don’t currently know what Sony Santa Monica is working on next but there’s hope it’s some kind of sequel to God of War.
