Facebook recently began sending out limited email invites to participate in a closed Alpha test for its Facebook Horizon, including a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). The email suggests that this will be a month-long testing period and the beta testing is set to start in the coming weeks. Users interested in taking part in the beta testing can sign up on Oculus Website.
Facebook announced the social VR app last year during the OC6. Facebook Horizons will allow users to take part in creating customizable worlds along with expressive avatars and experiences.
During the announcement last September, Facebook also promised that the social VR app would launch in 2020 and that a closed beta was planned for early this year.
A screenshot shared on Reddit shows that Facebook is now sending out invites for a private alpha for Facebook Horizon. A closed beta is set to launch in the coming weeks or months. The screenshot of the Facebook invite email for the alpha for Facebook Horizon was shared by a Reddit user who received the invitation. Last Friday was the cut-off period for the invited users to accept the invitation. The alpha is set to begin later this month.
The invite email also notes that participation in the alpha will require that users sign an NDA because the alpha version of the Facebook Horizon “is an early form” and Facebook will still be making product improvements on the app “over the course of the month”.
The alpha invitation email suggests this will be a month-long testing period. A Facebook statement issued to UploadVR also suggests tests being ‘on the horizon’ so the closed beta which Facebook promised during the OC6 could start in April or soon after.
The Facebook Horizon social VR app is set to launch on both Quest and Rift platforms. Facebook has yet to divulge the release dates for the full launch. Anyone interested in participating in the closed beta for the Horizon can still sign up online.
