As you progress through Anthem, you will quickly find that the game focuses very heavily on crafting, as the complex system allows you the ability to upgrade your Javelin’s components, gear, and even weapons.
The more you craft and upgrade, the stronger your Javelin will become, making it easier to complete missions and defeat enemies. If you’re planning on tackling some of Anthem’s end-game content, crafting the strongest Javelin possible will be vital.
From learning how to gather materials to understanding Blueprints, this guide will teach you everything you need to know about crafting in Anthem.
How to Unlock Crafting in Anthem
Unfortunately, crafting in Anthem isn’t available right off the bat and to unlock it, you will be required to complete the first several missions of the game.
Upon returning to Fort Tarsis after the completion of the Lost Arcanist mission, you will be prompted to speak with a man called Prospero in the marketplace. Here, you will receive the briefing for the ‘Lighting a Fire’ mission and will be asked to collect and return three pieces of Ember.
Once you have found the three pieces of Ember, make your way back to Prospero where he will grant you access to crafting and also the ability to purchase unique time-limited skins and crafting components from his Featured Store.
Crafting Materials in Anthem
With crafting now unlocked, it’s time to start upgrading and crafting all new components, weapons, and gear to make your Javelin as strong and unique as possible.
There are currently eleven different types of crafting materials in Anthem that you can collect, with each material often being used to craft specific upgrades.
Please note though, that Ember, Javelin Specific Parts, Chimeric Alloy, and Chimeric Compound can be purchased through Prospero’s Featured Store or Sayrna’s Regulator Store for coins.
Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound
Defined as Anthem’s most basic crafting materials, Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound are used to craft weapons, gear, and javelin components.
Ember (Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Masterwork Embers)
Arguably the most sort after material in Anthem, Ember plays an essential part to the crafting system and is used to create almost every item in the game – gear, weapons, and even components.
Depending on the requirement of your Blueprint, Ember comes in six different types of rarity: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and masterwork.
Javelin Specific Parts (Interceptor, Ranger, Colossus, and Storm)
Javelin specific parts are used primarily to craft unique components and weapons for your Javelin.
Weapon Parts are used solely for crafting new weapons for your Javelin.
Understanding Ember Rarity Drop Rates
Before you go out of your way in an attempt to obtain a certain rarity of Ember, it is important to note that the Ember drop rate is based solely on your Pilot level. Meaning, that regardless of your level or the difficulty that you are playing on you will only ever receive the maximum tier of Ember that is available for your level.
Check out the tier list below that details the maximum rarity of Ember that you can receive at your level.
- Pilot Level 1-9: Up to Uncommon (Green)
- Pilot Level 10-19: Up to Rare (Blue) loot
- Pilot Level 20-29: Up to Epic (Purple) loot
- Pilot Level 30+: Up to Masterwork (Orange) loot
How to Obtain Crafting Materials in Anthem
Before you can begin crafting though, you are going to need to gather materials. Materials can be harvested throughout the world of Bastion, found inside Treasure Chests, rewarded through Challenges, or even purchased through Prospero’s Featured Store, as well as Sayrna’s Regulator Store.
With so many different methods available for obtaining crafting materials, here are some of the best ways to find each of the eleven materials in Anthem.
How to Obtain Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound in Anthem
The fastest way to obtain Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound is through Free Play and exploring the vast environments of Bastion. Chimeric Alloy is Anthem’s mineral-based material and is frequently found in the form of hard crystal-like rocks.
You will often find Chimeric Alloy around caves and underground environments, whereas Chimeric Compound is a plant-based material that is harvested all throughout Bastion’s lush vegetation.
Thankfully, these materials are prevalent throughout the map and stand out pretty well, making them hard to miss.
How to Obtain Ember (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Masterwork) in Anthem
The process of obtaining Ember is thankfully rather simple but will require a fair bit of grinding to accumulate the amount needed for each upgrade you are trying to perform. The following methods can be used to obtain Ember:
- One of the easiest ways of obtaining Ember is through Salvaging any gear, weapons, or components that you don’t plan on using. In most cases, Ember will usually appear at the same level of rarity of the item you are salvaging.
- Along with receiving Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound when harvesting from plants and minerals around Bastion, you also have the chance of obtaining Ember.
- Completing World Events while exploring Bastion is yet another method for obtaining Ember. While World Events aren’t necessarily long or challenging – especially when completed with a team – they can be a little hard to find at times. To receive the Ember though, be sure to check the Treasure Chests that appear after completing each World Event (look for the chest icon that will appear in the game).
- If you have managed to grow a rather impressive stack of coins, you can always purchase Embers from Prospero’s Featured Store or Sayrna’s Regulator Store for some rather hefty prices.
How to Obtain Javelin Specific Parts in Anthem
In most cases, Javelin parts can are found when looting Piles of Scrap, Treasure Chests, or even when salvaging gear, weapons, and other components.
How to Obtain Weapon Parts in Anthem
Weapon Parts in Anthem are found when looting Piles of Scrap, Treasure Chests, and even when salvaging other weapons.
What Are Blueprints
Materials aren’t the only required needed to start crafting in Anthem, as you will also need to acquire Blueprints.
Blueprints are one of the most important items within the game, as they allow you to craft better weapons and gear for your Javelin. Without Blueprints, your Javelin will not have access to key weapons, gear, and components.
Like other crafting items in Anthem, blueprints come in several different rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Masterwork, and Legendary.
With seven different Blueprints available, here are the current blueprints types that are available to be unlocked.
- Javelin Specific Abilities
- Ability and Elemental Components
- Weapon Sigils
Unlike Ember’s though, the process to upgrade your gear and weapons to the next level of rarity is much simpler as you will only need to complete a series of challenges. These challenges can be found within your Cortex, underneath the Challenges tab.
How to Craft Better Weapons in Anthem Using Blueprints
Although random Blueprints can be obtained by completing missions and world events, the most efficient way to collect and unlock a bunch of uncommon, rare, epic, or masterwork blueprints at once is through the completion of Faction Loyalty activities and Weapon Challenges.
Completing the activities below will grant you the following rewards. However, it is worth noting that you will need to complete your current challenge before you can move onto the next rarity tier.
- Freelancer Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Universal Component Blueprints
- Freelancer Loyalty 2 – Rare Universal Component Blueprints
- Freelancer Loyalty 3 – Epic Universal Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Iconic Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 2 – Rare Iconic Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 3 – Epic Iconic Component Blueprints
Arcanist Activities (Must be level 10 to deloy):
- Arcanist Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Sigil Blueprints
- Arcanist Loyalty 2 – Rare Sigil Blueprints
- Arcanist Loyalty 3 – Epic Sigil Blueprints
When it comes upgrading your Weapons and Gear, the process of unlocking Blueprints is very similar.
The Havoc I is a great example, as to unlock the Uncommon Blueprint for the weapon, you will need to defeat a total of 50 enemies. Once the challenge is completed, the uncommon Blueprint will unlock, and you will then have the option to complete the Rare Blueprint for the weapon.
How to Start Crafting in Anthem
Now that you have learned how to obtain both crafting materials and blueprints, you will want to head to the Forge and begin the process of upgrading your weapons and Javelin with all-new crafted items.
The Forge — which can be found in Fort Tarsis, right next to the launch bay that you frequently use to access your Javelin — will be the only way that you can upgrade your Javelin and perform crafting.
To start crafting, enter the Forge. From here, select the specific item slot that you want to upgrade. Now, navigate to the ‘craft’ tab and you will be able to view all of your available blueprints for that specific slot.
When selecting the blueprint, you will find a list of requirements towards the bottom; this list will display all of the materials that are needed to craft the item.
