GM delivering Buick Velite EV in China

Buick unveiled the brand’s first electric model, the Velite
6, at the recent Shanghai auto show.

According to Buick, Velite 6 isn’t quite a hatchback or a
crossover or a wagon, but something in between: a “multiactivity vehicle” (MAV).
The all-electric Velite 6 is built on a new platform that GM designed together with
its Chinese joint-venture partner SAIC. It features an “in-city electric
driving range” of 187 miles.

Buick says it will deliver 5,000 of the EVs this month to
Chinese car-sharing operator EV Card.

Sales of “new energy” (plug-in) vehicles are soaring in China, even as the broader auto market contracts. NEV sales more than doubled to 227,000 in the first quarter of 2019. China has been GM’s largest retail sales market since 2012, and Buick is the automaker’s biggest brand in China.
