German transport ministry opens applications for charging point funding

The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has announced the fourth funding call for its charging infrastructure program. The ministry has allocated around €100 million ($110.6 million) for the construction of 5,000 normal and 5,000 fast charging points in the fourth round.

BMVI has earmarked around €300 million ($331.75 million) through 2020 to help establish 15,000 charging stations around Germany. So far, around 16,000 charging points have been approved through the program, including around 13,300 normal and 2,350 fast charging points.

The funding covers up to 50 percent of the cost
of construction, installation, and connection to the grid. To qualify, proposed
charging stations must be publicly accessible and powered by renewable energy.

Applications are due by October 30 and can be submitted online here.
